the country on 4 August 2006

is just a sample of the breadth of activities being held nationally.
New South Wales
Dalaigur Preschool and

Artwork activities
Children will get to participate in creating Indigenous artwork
with Koori artists Elizabeth Bolt; and Koori Elder will bring wooden
boomerangs and teach the children traditional artwork
Northern Territory
Ampe Kenhe Apmere MACS
Centre, Central Australian Aboriginal Congress
Alice Springs, Northern
Territory
They are inviting families, carers and children to celebrate with
a barbeque and open afternoon, and to celebrate the story of ‘who
we are and where we live’ with an interactive display-collage
of Alice Springs incorporating the Yeperenye (caterpillar) dreaming
story of the Arrernte people.
Queensland
Undoonoo Child Care Centre
Woorabinda, Queensland
Holding arts and crafts activities, and a picnic in the park with
fun activities for the children and their parents and families invited.
It will also be a family photo day.
WuChopperen Aboriginal Health Service
Cairns, Queensland
Community Open Day
Free t-shirts printed with the Children’s Day theme for children
who attend
Stalls by Govt Departments and other family and children’s
services; traditional games, children’s performances, prizes,
music and dancing, jumping castle, balloons and bags.
Gold Coast Inclusion Support Agency
Gold Coast, Queensland
They are holding a huge children's day event at Currumbin Wildlife
sanctuary on the Gold Coast, with cultural activities, indigenous
dancers, wildlife talks and exhibits, and food for the kids. They
hope to attract about 600 children from 24 child care and out of
home care services and schools from around the Gold Coast region.
South Australia
Kura Yerlo Children’s
Centre
Port Adelaide, South Australia
Having a ‘Stay and Play’ day, with parents and elders
invited to spend time at the centre to play with their children.
They are also using the Children’s Activities developed by
SNAICC for Children’s Day as part of their day’s activities.
Tasmania
Aboriginal Children’s
Centre
West Moonah, Tasmania
‘Family Day at Risdon Cove’
Their aim for the day is for the children to be entertained at a
big event on traditional land. Cultural activities and interactive
displays; with tree planting and traditional food such as mutton
bird provided for lunch. Cultural showbags for the children to take
away.
Victoria
Victorian Aboriginal
Child Care Agency (VACCA)
Melbourne, Victoria
Koori Disco and cultural day, ‘Lets’ celebrate our culture’,
at the Aborigines Advancement League, Thornbury. Includes a BBQ,
traditional dancers and games, showbags and a hip hop dance class.
Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-operative Milla Milla playgroup
Geelong North, Victoria
Children’s Day celebration at the playgroup for all aged children
to attend, with: cultural face painting, jumping castle, boomerang
painting, clapstick painting and a mural for kids to do. Didgeridoo
player for the kids to dance to, lunch (bbq and cultural food).
Western Australia
Gurlongga Njininj MACS
Perth, Western Australia
The children will create a mural on the day’s theme using
natural materials such as vegetation, calico, and hand-prints. Weather
permitting, they’ll have a sausage sizzle for the kids and
centre staff.
